If you’re getting a bunch of strict, military-style haircuts, consider dying your hair before you stop getting them.

In boot camp, we had a haircut contract where we had a strict taper every week. I asked my barber why she offered that when no one else did and she said I was the 8th person to enlist from this small town (population 14,000) and she had to give all of us high-and-tights.

Anyway, when I was getting ready to take my hair down to a more reasonable length, my barber told me to dye my hair red first, because it makes the process of growing your hair out way less noticeably. It’s been three years and you can tell I’m growing my hair out, but it doesn’t look like I went from a buzz cut to shaggy hair overnight.
