It's my birthday, I want to get a tattoo of my girlfriend of 8 years' name. Will this damage our relationship if it doesn't work out?

I turned 28 today! It's been an odd week. I've been thinking about tattoos and I really like the idea of a tattoo of her name, hidden, maybe on my stomach. I don't know why, but I feel like it's such a meaningful gesture. But now I'm not sure. We've been together 8 years. We have a lovely home together, I love her to death and I'm not planning on leaving her any time soon! It just feels like such a romantic gesture to celebrate our relationship and I feel like she would appreciate the permanence of it. However, I'm worried that if we break up I'll feel so stupid for having done it. Anyone got any thoughts about tattoos of your significant other? I feel a bit ashamed to admit that I'm considering it but I don't know why.
