If men couldn't hit on us, how many less murders, assaults and rapes do you think there would be?

We talk about the harm caused by the societal expectation for women to be seen as attractive and desired. We talk about the harm of men hitting on us when and where we want. But what if men just couldn't hit on us at all? Could a world without hitting on even be possible? What if men were expected to be attractive, but not desired? How would that change things?

The other day, I was walking home from a grocery store with a cart full of cat food and a loaf of bread. A guy walks up to me and asks "do you want to grab coffee with me?" I replied "no thanks, I have cat food to get home to". He walked off.

Later that evening I'm back at home with my cats and I hear a knock on the door. I open it up to the police. There's a report of a man who's been stalking a woman who looks like me, and the police found him a block from where I live. They put him in a mental institution. They told me that he was arrested twice before for stalking and assaulting women. He was arrested for trespassing and breaking into the house of a woman who lives across the street from me, but got out on bail. This time he's being held until he can be deemed not a threat to society.

If men couldn't hit on us, do you think there would be that many less murders, assaults and rapes?
