What is the difference between a civil war and a religious war?

It is quite obvious that the English Civil War was a civil war as it was a power struggle between different religious factions and was contained within a single country and didn’t involve any foreign powers, but what changes when it involves foreign powers. Was the civil war in Yemen a civil war or a religious war? Was the Thirty Years War a religious war or a war between religious factions?
