The British used religious dogma to justify American slavery, how did the Americans manage to break free from that mindset?

I'm curious to know if there are historians on here who could help me understand more about how people in the Americas were able to break away from the Christian argument of the time in Britain to justify the trading of enslaved Africans. I'm not religious, and I struggle to understand historical mindsets of religious people.

It seems to me that the British justified slavery at least in part because of religious dogma, but the Americans didn't specifically use religious dogma in the same way the British did, yet, the Americans still engaged in and defended the practice of slavery. The paradox of a nation that declared "all men are created equal" while continuing to engage in and defend slavery seems to me to be rooted in at least part of a religious dogma, but I struggle to understand the religious cases that were used specifically by the Americans and how they differentiated themselves.
