IMHO everyone deserves a fair wage. Those who serve food in restaurants make less than minimum wage, **and the owners are allowed to do this legally because of a loophole in the labor laws**. How many restaurants pay their workers a living wage? None that I know of, because they don't have to.

Some argue that the workers don't care because all of their compensation comes from tips, or that they make a lot more in tips than they would if they earned a standard wage ratified and backed by the government. This is all well and good of course. But what if you can't tip? Should you be denied service? It's not fair. If it's legal to serve someone food and charge them, **they should pay the workers a standard labor wage**. Otherwise everyone who tips creates a loophole for the owners to pay their workers less than minimum wage.

- **Fat chance if I don't get 25% from you**.
- **My company will go bankrupt if I pay my workers a standard wage, and believe me, I would because I hate having to owe my employees.** Don't worry, I'll just **have a big bowl of Tip-ex.**

Another example is pizza delivery. Pizza delivery drivers make less than minimum wage because someone else is paying them a wage, **you**. So then are pizza delivery drivers not entitled to minimum wage? **Of course not**. How many pizza delivery drivers make a living wage? None that I know of because they are allowed to be paid less than minimum wage because tipping and Tip-ex are legal. If I'm hungry and order food, I don't want to have to think about whether or not I'm denying someone a living wage, which is why I consider tipping a loophole in labor laws and it should be illegal.

Edit: Tipping is a loophole in ratified and required labor minimum wage laws. Tipping has nothing to do with the quality of the service. The amount of the tip is based on how much the food costs. Receiving a higher amount of service based on a tip, such as a popular table getting a free drink, **should be illegal**. If you do your job well, you should just get paid for your labor, that's all. I'm not entitled to more labor because I tipped you. I tipped you because I'm **compelled to pay your wage because the government allows your employer to pay you less than standard minimum wage**. You owe **me** a better service. An interesting point someone brought up was that tipping and tipping culture has crept into every service of labor. Tipping has nothing to with ratified and required labor minimum wage laws. If tipping should be legal, **labor laws should be loosened and the minimum wage should be lowered**.
