Whenever I was a kid, my dad would take me to the food court in the mall occasionally to get dinner. It was an open food area, with several different food vendors surrounding the sitting area, like Subway, Chinese food, Fried Chicken, Moe's Southwest grill and a few others. The way they worked was that you go to a food vendor and they give you a paper ticket that shows the amount of what you ordered. Then you take that ticket to the checkout and pay for however many tickets you have, and then you can go eat. Its a really stupid system.

So, whenever we would go there, I saw a little bin on the ground at the register, labeled "tickets," that people would put their tickets in whenever they were done. They were just thrown away. One day I waited until nobody was paying attention, snuck behind the register, and grabbed 3 or 4 tickets out of the bin. I went to a few of the vendors, and ordered food without paying for it. Nobody ever checked my receipts or anything. I felt like I had gotten away with a huge crime.

This went on for a couple years, whenever my dad took me to the mall. One day though, I had ordered a burrito from the Moe's vendor, and as I was walking away with my food, an employee came and took it from me and called the manager on me. I didnt have a ticket to give her, so she took my food and I got in trouble. I started to cry because I knew what I had done, and I felt like I was going to jail or something. The manager was yelling at me and a few other employees were staring at me. I told them that my dad had paid for the food and was going to bring me the ticket. They believed me and told me to bring it back or they would take the food. So I left and told my dad what had happened. He was really mad and asked where I got the other food from. I told him that I had saved an old receipt from last time we went. He didnt believe me so I had to take him to the other places I had gotten food and explain to all of them that I had saved an old ticket and used it. I think my dad believed me, but he was still mad. He told me that it was wrong to steal, and that I would get in trouble if I kept doing it. I listened and never did it again.

I still go to that food court to this day and they still use the ticket system. I wonder how many kids have gotten away with so much over the years.
