CMV: 'Traditional' Marriage is a relic of our past and should not be used as a baseline for our acceptance and definition of marriage. To say otherwise is disingenuous to our understanding of the evolution of 'Traditional' marriage in our society and does a disservice to the equality of women.

- 'Traditional' Marriage is nothing more than a societal construct.

- A 'traditional' marriage is one in which the man works to provide while the woman is expected to be a homemaker and mother.

- To base your understanding of what should constitute a marriage for our society on a societal construct which holds objective gender roles is disingenuous to the progress of women and the feminist movement.

- The construct is inflexible and is incompatible with individualism and modernity. We have proven that a marriage can be successful when both partners work and contribute to the household income, or when both partners individually contribute to the household income as they please.

- Marriage is about the 'love between two people' or so we say. Gender roles have no place in our acceptance and definition of marriage. If two women get married, are they then expected to adopt a traditionally masculine gender role in the marriage, and vice versa for two men? Gender roles should have no place in our acceptance or definition of marriage.

- To use this as a baseline for marriage is 'traditionalist'.

- If marriage should not be bound by gender roles, 'Traditional' Marriage is not an appropriate baseline for marriage.
