Apple says it will stop producing iPods

Apple announced that it is ending production of its iPod, more than 20 years after the portable music player was first unveiled in 2001.<br><br>The company says it will continue to sell the devices from its current stock, but did not say when those would run out.<br><br>It also promised continued software support for the devices, which revolutionised the way people listened to music at the time.<br><br>In its statement, Apple added that the effects of the iPod can be seen in all of its handheld devices.<br><br>"We had no way of knowing how it would inspire a generation of innovators the way it did," it said.<br><br>The news marks the final nail in the coffin of the iPod, after Apple stopped producing the iPod Nano and Shuffle in 2017.<br><br>The iPod was at the forefront of the digital revolution in music, allowing listeners to carry their favourite songs with them.
