The guy who broke into my dorm room was my stalker

It was January of my freshman year of college, and I was in my dorm room studying and getting ready for bed. I was watching some TV and a few minutes after midnight I got up to change into bed and was about to turn out the lights, when I saw a shadowy figure sitting on my bed. I was terrified. I let out the loudest, most intense scream I've ever let out in my life. I'm pretty sure everyone in the entire building heard it. I didn't even want to turn on the light and see the figure, I just wanted to turn it off and pretend it wasn't there and crawl under my covers and hide, but I managed to turn on the light. The guy looked around my age, with messy dark hair and brown eyes, and a green and yellow striped sweater. He had a backpack. I can't remember any other details. I was too busy being terrified out of my wits to even notice much.

He got up and ran out of my room, but not before he grabbed my laptop, cell phone, TV and iPod. I called the resident director and campus police and they met me in the hallway. I don't know if they caught him or not, I never followed up, but my resident advisor let him in my room that night, and the guy had told her "some girl was in trouble and needed help" but he was gone before she could follow up on it. They checked the footage and saw him walking in the building, but even though they knew my RA let him in, they couldn't pinpoint exactly who it was.

I replaced all of my electronics, and I never thought about the incident much again until I got a message from someone on okcupid (this was back in 2008). He had messaged me a few times before and I had responded. I don't know if I'd met him, but I'd definitely met up with guys from there before. But his message was short. Just his name and a heart eyed emoticon... the same name I'd given my campus police report. Same name of the guy who'd recently become a friend on my myspace. I didn't answer and blocked him.

A week after that I started getting messages on myspace... first it was just a few, but then dozens and dozens of messages from the same guy. Also comments on my pictures and status updates. I blocked him and reported him to the site. Then I started getting messages and comments from my friends, asking me why I'd been "mean" to him, why I'd been "harsh" with him. He was messaging people I knew and telling them I'd called him names and blocked him without giving him a chance. I looked at his profile and it was just pictures of him, including one of him in a green and yellow striped sweater.

I gave all this information to campus police and they started watching me, including having plain clothes officers sit outside of my classes. They never caught him.

One night when I was alone in my room, I woke up because I heard someone in the hallway, jiggling my doorknob. I called campus police and hid in my closet, listening as the person jiggled my door knob for at least 20 minutes... I heard the police come up and they hid in the room across the hall... eventually whoever it was left and went down the stairs. My door was the only one that had been tried.

I moved off campus after that semester and never heard anything else about him... but I always feel like I'm being watched, and I always double and triple check locks.
