As a kid, what was something that you thought was the norm for every kid, only to find out later that that was not "normal" for most kids?

For example, I thought every kid had to stand up on the chairs in the dining room and sing "I will survive" every Sunday night. Because my sister and I both "had to" we had a closet full of costumes.
