To expand: despite the fact that many people are claiming "Unemployment is at 3.7% how is he taking credit for 12 million jobs?!" the claim that President Trump is making about 12 million jobs is accurate.

The math is simple. In January 2017, there were 152.1 million people employed. In April 2020 there were 130.3 million people employed. In April 2021, there were 152.2 million people employed. Going simple, 152,200,000 (currently employed) - 130,300,000 (people employed last year) = 21,900,000. However, that 130.3 million was a 22 million job loss. So, 152,200,000 - 152,100,000 - 22 million = 22 million jobs lost recovered, and 21.9 million jobs net gained this year.

But that is just the last year. We also need to include the 23.2 million jobs that existed in January 2020 and the 152.1 million existing in January 2017. So, 152,200,000 - 152,100,000 - 22 million + 23.2 million = 12.3 million. 152,200,000 - 152,100,000 + 23.2 million - 22 million = 12.3 million. 152,200,000 - 130,300,000 +152,100,000 - 130,100,000 = 46 million. 46 million - 33.7 million = 12.3 million.

So, no matter how you calculate it, the claim of 12 million jobs is entirely accurate.

For purposes of this discussion, "accurate" will be defined as the claim fitting the provided math.

Now that that is laid out, come change my view!

EDIT: For those of you claiming that the employment numbers are faked or that the methodology used is flawed, that's an entirely different topic, and looking at the numbers as given by BLS, the claim is correct.

EDIT II: I am no longer responding to comments or messages in this thread.
