How would European Imperial powers have divided the Middle East after World War I?

Given that Arab nationalism was not a significant social force until the 1950s~1960s, it's doubtful whether the Arab kingdoms ever had the capacity to self-govern themselves. We could argue that was why the US and the UK were able to divide the Middle East and put different states in charge (albeit many being dictatorships, which is another story). <br>So in 1918, assuming Arab nationalism wasn't a driving force in Middle East politics, what would the division look like? How would Britain and the US maintain control over the territory?
