As a 7th grade teacher, I’m getting in trouble for bringing up a student’s past that we are not to talk about.

He obviously lives with trauma. I had my suspicions after knowing this student for a couple of years and paying close attention to him. I have guessed correctly. He has said some things, this is his first year opening up. I love him and I want to help him. I don’t want to report him. I want to make sure he LOVES me, he WANTS to say more, but I want to say something first. Something to let him know that I know. Something to break the ice. Asking about his life, etc. He wants to tell someone and he trusts me more than anyone else. I just want to help him heal but he also needs to be safe more than anything.

EDIT: Hi everyone, obviously I didn’t expect this post to get much attention. Thank you to everyone for the advice, although you don’t know the whole story. I love this student and I want to see him feel like a normal kid, and I want him to heal fast. This post is probably going to die down soon but I want to say thank you for the advice, although I won’t be taking most of it. I know more than I said. I don’t know why I said any of it. He’s a great kid and I want to see him get better. Also, to the people who say I shouldn’t be a teacher, I’m a 7th grade teacher and I’m 19. Teacher shortage, they were desperate.
