AITA for not giving up my seat to a friend’s parents at their adult child’s wedding?

I was recently invited to a wedding, it was a huge one. I’m not a close friend of either of the couples but am friends with a few people that were invited and the groom and I have a common friend so I assume that why I was invited. The wedding had a seating chart and I found my seat and figured it was for a reason. I’m not a huge fan of weddings and I found out I was three seat away from the bride.

If I move one seat to the left then the person there would have to move and so forth, I wanted to avoid that. So I sat and started using my glasses to see if it was time for an open bar.

After about three minutes, two people in their 60s were looking at me and that’s when a voice behind said “you alright Pop, Mom? You lost?" I stood up to see a friend of mine, let call him Sam. Then he asked me what the hell I was doing in his seat and I asked him to show me. That’s when he said those are his parent’s seats and I got up because I didn’t want to be there anymore.

Sam then proceeded to tell me I was an asshole for not giving up my seat to his parent’s. I told him that he was an asshole. His parents were older and should have had front seats, but instead they were all the way in the back with a young child. I looked and sure enough, the child was in a high chair but if I had moved over one seat then his grandfather would have had to move over so that his daughter and her child could sit down “together” as a family.

So I moved over one seat to make sure they could all sit “together” as a family. Sam did not like that and he called me an asshole. The grandfather then looked over and said watch it Sam “because that man stood up so we can all sit” and I told Sam he should have thought of that before he started yelling at me. I told Sam to move his ass so that his daughter and child can sit.

Sam told me that I was not a good friend and that I should have stood up so that his parents could sit. I told him that I stood up for them to sit together but he said that I was an asshole for making him move so that his daughter and child could sit. Then his daughter move the high chair to his seat and I moved over so they could all sit.

Sam then stated that I only care about myself and that I’m selfish. I told him that I’m not a good friend and that I’m selfish but I stood so that his parents and the rest of the family could sit and I’m not going to stand because he wanted me to and he told me that I still a selfish asshole and that I want attention. I then said that I stood so all of you could sit and still have room for your daughter and grandson to sit. I stood and gave up my seat for your family so I’m not an asshole I’m a good friend.

So AITA?
