Relationships matter more than edutainment

At the age of 26, I (Female) began my career as a high school English teacher after completing my English degree and student teaching. I couldn't wait to engage my students and foster a love for literature in them. Despite my best efforts, I struggled to maintain their attention and find interesting ways to convey complex concepts. I eventually realized that my students weren't connecting with the material, which led to a shift in my approach.
