The kids are making me lose it

I went from being a self contained teacher to team teaching. We also switched teams. (That is another story) I know I’m supposed to have patience with two new teachers and that I can be a mentor to them but I’m not sure how much longest.

The two teachers I teamed up with are just so very different. Let’s call them let’s call them Ms. G and Ms. K. They are two in a team of four and are the new teachers in our group.

Ms. G has little to no classroom management. So we have had some issues with them disrupting class. If one is down pulling her hair it makes the other one do it. If one starts screaming we need to make sure the other one doesn’t also. They are hit and miss on the goals for the day. She is really hit and miss with data collection and anything I request from her. I have to check daily that she has completed the report. I’m just hit and miss that she is doing the right thing.

Ms. K also is wonderful with the kids but is clueless about what we are supposed to be doing. She is very sweet but I have to steer her back on track. (A skip count 2 song in math since we are doing two word problems) She is taking data and completing the reports and is only bringing up concerns about things they are working on. Mainly skills she has never seen before and I’ve been able to give her some advice.

I have said that I’m glad I’m in a team now. They do have positives. Both of them are wonderful with schedules and taking kids to the bathroom. They understand when I need extra time if there is a melt down.

I’m still on the fence here as I’ve never had to “mentor” anyone before and I’m not sure how to. I’m also afraid that I’m not being nice enough or giving them enough time to learn.
