I've been watching anime for over 30 years, and I've come to the realisation that I would never want to live in any other time or culture than modern Western civilisation. What is it about anime that makes them want to live in such an archaic time period?

It got me thinking the other day, and I've been watching anime for longer than I can remember, and I think I've got a pretty good handle on most of them, and while I can see why some people might want to watch them for the action, romance, or the story, etc, I can't imagine ever wanting to actually live like they do. Most of them take place in modern times, but with some weird archaic twists, such as Japan in the future, or the world in the future, but with feudal Japan. I can't imagine wanting to live in a time where you are completely at the mercy of your lord, where you are forced to give up half of whatever meagre income you might have, and the only way out of that is to become a samurai, or the lord's personal servant, or whatever. Most anime just completely ignores the parts of history where women aren't treated like slaves, and it's really obvious that they just don't understand the world they are depicting, but that's a different story.

Okay, so I understand why some people would like the action or whatever, but why would you want to live like that? Do you not realise that you would have no rights at all? I think part of the problem is that people don't realise just how good we have it in the modern Western world, we take it for granted, and I think the reason anime fans are so into this stuff is that they are so disconnected from the world around them that they don't realise how good they have it, and that if they were born in any other time or place they would have been a slave or something far, far worse. The reason they like watching this stuff is because they are so miserable with their lives, and deep down they know they will never achieve what they want, that they would rather imagine a world where they are a hero, than face the reality that they are nothing.

I've always been a huge fan of history, and I think one of the big reasons I like watching anime is that I find it fascinating to learn about other cultures, and I think that's probably true for a lot of people, but I think a big part of it is also escapism, because it allows you to imagine a different world, and in doing so you can escape the miserable reality that your own life is. I know a lot of guys on this subchambers who are just so miserable with their lives, and I can tell by looking at their posts that deep down they know they will never achieve what they want, because they are just not good enough, and they don't have the right personality, looks, or talent to attract any kind of woman, or achieve any kind of success. They know it, deep down, and they are just using anime as a way to escape that reality. They don't actually want to live in that world, but they want to imagine that they are something they are not.

Another reason is that anime makes women out to be the biggest bitches on earth. In reality women are insufferable and spiteful, but they don't have the same level of power that they are depicted with in anime, and they can't actually ruin your life with the same level of efficiency, so women are a lot more bearable in reality, than they are in anime. But the point is that in anime women are so depicted as the biggest bitches on earth, that if you were to watch enough of them you would start to see women that way too, and start to resent them for it, and get bitter. Women are insufferable, and they are spiteful, but they are also a necessary evil, and they are necessary for reproduction, and that's probably the only reason most men put up with them, so they don't really want to live in a world where they are completely powerless, and women have all the power. And this is another reason why men like to watch anime, because they think that women are insufferable, and they want to imagine a world where they have all the power, so they can imagine a world where women can't ruin their lives.

I'm sure there's other reasons too, but the point is, most men don't want to actually live in the worlds that are depicted in anime, but they want to imagine that they are something they are not, because deep down they know they will never achieve what they want.
