AITA for cancelling my kids birthday party over a group text conversation?

I have a 12 year old daughter, and this is a story about her birthday. You’ll see why it’s so long in a minute. I apologize now.<br><br>She wanted her first real sleepover birthday party, and the guest list was already made up before we left for summer vacation. She wanted it in the back yard, with tents, so I spent 3 weeks before her birthday setting it up, including getting the pool set up in the center.<br><br>She turned 12 on July 16 th this year, and with the heat and humidity, the temperature was in triple digits, so she decided last minute to have the party at a trampoline park. It was kind of last minute, but I was able to get a room so we could still have the sleep over aspect. Everyone said they were coming, and we never got any calls or text from any of the moms saying we can’t come.<br><br>So Saturday morning we’re setting everything up, the girls are all getting there and I sent the group text saying, “ everyone here?” and that’s when it started. Momma Karen texts me saying her daughter was sick. Momma Andrea texts me her daughter broke her ankle. And due to the fact these were the only two moms to get back to me and my daughter had 9 guests coming, so she was now down 2… I knew something was up. I asked again, txt by text, if anyone else was coming.<br><br>Momma Lauren texts me and says her daughter has the flu. Momma Jessica texts her daughter has broken her hand and arm. <br><br>At this point my daughter is in tears. She knew it was all bullshit excuses. <br><br>The last mom to text was momma Stephanie, who told me because her daughter didn’t like trampolines. Real reason is she plays basketball and soccer. <br><br>My very lovely wife gives me “the look”, so I text this : “Perfect! I CANCELLED MY DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY PARTY”… and I did with minimal monetary losses. <br><br>Now, this is where I might be the asshole. The group text started blowing up with pissed off moms. Momma Karen was the first to respond with “why did I have to know??? Shes sick!”<br><br>So, I responded with “ if she was sick, you wouldn’t have known if she was coming or not”. And shared the whole group text with everyone. ( Momma Karen didn’t mean to do that in a group text) <br><br>And the shit show began. <br><br>Every mom accused me of calling out their girls by name. I said I did what I had to do to save my daughter from embarrassment. <br><br>I also posted pics of the whole thing, set up and all.<br><br>And that’s when momma Stephanie made the accusation that I planned the whole thing and took pics to make it look like I didn’t cancel as punishment for them not coming to my daughters birthday party. <br><br>So, I’m the asshole for proving I didn’t cancel without good reason. <br><br>It’s gotten so bad, momma Karen and momma Stephanie are getting the other moms to say their girls don’t want to be friends with my daughter anymore. <br><br>And there it is. I didn’t handle this right.
