**Post in r/ChileRedditoR**

Many people as well as I hope that the current government will be overthrown by a vote of no confidence and get replaced by the opposition. If it does not happen, however, I would hope that the conservative votes continue to dwindle in the comin elections to the extent that the new govenrment will be threatened by the opposition like never before.

In the case of porportional representation, higher number of parties participating = less chances that any party has an outright majority. In the case of presidential election in Chile, the conservatives will be better off if the opposition field two candidates.

That's why I can't understand why the unions' strike is only for one day. It is better if the government is threatened by strikes of longer duration and wider participation, than for awhile with few employees striking.
