A panhandler followed me through a grocery store

I regularly go to a grocery store in a not so safe part of town. There are often panhandlers in the parking lots; they tend to congregate out by the garden center, presumably because it is hidden from view of the surrounding apartments.

Over the years, I have given these people money, food, fruit leather, water and gatorade.

One day, a young-ish man approached my car and started to ask something. I reached for my wallet and said, "how much?" He said, "$20?" "You must be joking," was my reply as I gave him my last $5.

He looked at it and said, "I'm not leaving" and started walking towards the driver's side door. I backed up, parked my car in a more visible place and ran inside the store.

This guy followed me in and proceeded to follow me through the store as I shopped. He even went so far as to set up camp by my car in the parking lot. I was too creeped out to get my groceries. I left and came back later.

I never saw him again but it creeped me out since I use that grocery store almost daily and it felt like my safe space had been breached.

Guy who followed me through a grocery store, let's not meet again.
