Help! What did I just do?

I am a 1st year teacher, and I am not sure what the hell I did. Not for profit.

I am really struggling with my 2nd grade English class during some lessons. I have 8 students, and it is definitely manageable. The majority of the students seem not to care for English class and they get angry when they can’t do what they want to do. I have tried incentives and positive speech to encourage them but nothing seems to work. There is a lesson where I have the students read a short passage and fill out 4 short questions. The questions are about what happened in the passage. They often shout during class, and many students aren’t doing the work that needs to be done. After the third time, of telling the students to be quiet I have now put a consequence in place where no one is doing the work or listening. When a students doesn’t follow instructions I pull a card from the consequence jar. I’ll explain the consequence jar. It’s a jar that I put either treats or consequences in. Treats can be something like “10 min extra recess”. Consequences can be “Leave early from recess.” I have now put cards like “Do the next lesson with the teacher at lunch” or “3 hours of quiet in class during recess.”

When a student asks why they are getting a card, I give them the reason. I have now told them the reason and given them a card twice. I told them to stop talking but they didn’t so I gave them the card. They get up and walk to the supermarket and don’t come back for the whole lesson. Instead of helping myself, I ran after the student pulled their arm and dragged them back to class. I am not proud of this and I know I fucked up. So my question is what can I do to prevent this in the future and how to I move past what I did?
