AITA for taking back the universal remote?

I've read about the "univeral remote" before, but never thought much into it. For the last two weeks or two months I don't know, I have taken over the remotes. I take them all from my family and hold them for a few minutes before giving them back. I am doing this for two reasons, one, to keep remotes from breaking from being dropped, and two to practice using remotes.

Well last Sunday, during our dinner, I took all the remotes and kept them for the evening. When I gave them back, my brother was bitching at me saying I do this every time and that I should give them back when I get them since I'm the only one who uses the remotes. I told him that's not true, because our family usually watches a lot of YouTube videos together and my mom controls the remotes more than me or my brother.

My brother got mad and said "Well, then why do you take them all the time, if mom is the one controlling the remotes". My mom then jumped in and said "I think it's a good idea if OP does that. It'll make sure we won't break them if we drop them or press too many buttons at once." I think through this conversation, we all came to an agreement where my brother just accepts the fact that I'm holding remotes. However the next day, I did the same thing and held the remotes again, only this time my brother yelled at me for doing it again and took the remotes from me.

I got mad and took them all back from him, and now we are fighting over remotes. AITA?
