CMV: The fact that people have been wrong about the death toll of coronavirus, as well as other things, is an invalid argument for acting as if corona doesn't exist.

I've seen tons of people comment online about how the death toll is so low and that we were supposed to all be dead by March or whatever, as a result of COVID, and how the media just lies to us. Some people literally don't even believe in COVID and say that the media is just brainwashing us into thinking it's a thing. To clarify, I do not think that COVID-19 is a lie made up by the media, I am just stating what I have seen.

The way I see it is this: Just because people have been wrong about the death toll and the media lies to us about certain things doesn't mean we should just act as if coronavirus or any other issue doesn't exist. It makes me mad when I am just trying to follow the rules and I see people going out of their way to disobey them. If the media does lie about death tolls then that doesn't magically make COVID nonexistent. It still exists and people still catch it and die from it. Not to mention, even if the death toll isn't as high as it was supposed to be, that doesn't mean the virus is any less contagious.

Now before I get downvoted to oblivion by all of the people that disagree, I would just like to say that I am not saying that we should not question information that we are given; In fact, doing so is very important if you want to truly know what's going on in the world. But don't just completely blow off something that is an issue just because a few statistics that were stated were wrong.

Edit: I am quite pleased that I have had so many upvotes and awards on this post. Thank you all for being so supportive! I understand that I probably sound like some kind of dumb sheep or something that believes whatever she is told, but I am not. I have thoroughly done my research before posting this, and even if COVID-19 isn't as serious as I thought it was (I don't think it isn't, but I digress), I would still rather be safe than sorry, because I am not invincible. Stay safe!

Update/Edit/Whatever: Wow! Thank you so much again to all of the kind redditors who have been upvoting and awarding this post! As a fairly new Reddit user, I didn't even know that I got an award if my post got 1k upvotes, so I am very happy and thankful right now. If you see this, thank you so much!

EDIT/UPDATE: I guess I was wrong. I woke up about 30-40 minutes ago and my post had around 14k upvotes. I check back on it now because I was bored, and I have around 50k upvotes and 4 silver and 2 gold. Yaaay I guess. I was kind of against the idea of upvotes, I found them sort of cringey, but now I guess I'm just going to bask in the glory of my 50k upvotes and not be ashamed of it lmao.
