Ok so a lot of students use the previous years edition of books to save money, and I kinda stumbled into the same, last year edition of a book for way cheaper than this year's edition. I also know many people who use their friends or partner's book to study for the exams, as long as they don't use the book in class, it's fine.

But I think someone posted here where basically they used their husband's edition of a textbook to study for their exam, and everyone was like "NTA, fuck your prof".

Ok I get that profs suck, but using an outdated edition to study for an exam as it's not the current edition your prof is teaching with, THAT'S just cheating.

Ofc it's not as bad as using past exams to study, but using an outdated edition to study for an exam is cheating, right? Cause the prof may ask a question that only the new edition has the answers for.
