Stoner grandma here. Yes, I’m real. I got into smoking weed at age 76 and am now 81. I have never been happier or had this many friends this late in my life.

I usually use a vape pen and smoke it when I’m alone in my room. I live in a senior living community in NJ. While weed is legal for recreation in NJ, our senior living community doesn’t allow it. It is a privately owned community so I get it when they say it’s their right to not allow the use of illegal drugs, not just weed, anywhere in the building.

I don’t even understand why weed is even still considered an illegal drug. I live in NJ, a place where weed is legal for any use, and it’s still happening. Maybe it’s the whole not federallly legal thing but why isn’t this on the forefront of change? I don’t get it at all. Why isn’t it as normalized to use weed as it is to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes? I don’t and never have smoked cigarettes but I drink from time to time. I’d much rather smoke a joint then drink a shot of liquor, but lately, I’ve been doing both :)

I came from a time when it was very unpopular and my parents made it seem like the very worst drug ever. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m sure you’re going to bring up how weed is stronger now then back in the “day” but I don’t think that even matters. I still get the same high feeling from smoking now as I did back in the 80s at parties.

I’m sure you’re going to ask questions like what do you get high for? How are you afforading it? And why isn’t weed being allowed a big problem with you?

I’m not disabled but I do have chronic pain in my lower back. I’m 81 years old go figure. It doesn’t matter what I do to exercise it or take care of it, it still hurts sometimes and I don’t want to be in pain, especially when it could be easily solved.

So, for those who are gonna ask, no, I did not have an “early” senior living together. We own these condos and lately, we’ve been having neighbors die and it’s super sad. So, we obviously don’t want everyone high driving or walking around or whatever but smoking in the comfort of your own home should be allowed. I agree this should be on a case-by-case basis but obviously, people here are scared of what my age group gets up to.

I’m smoking high quality weed that is “medicinal weed” and by that I mean I have a medical card for weed. This is very expensive to purchase from the dispensaries and I don’t have a lot of money but my grandson/caregiver gets it for me. He smokes weed too but I don’t smoke when he isn’t around.

I still do all my normal activities. Weed actually does help me be more active and do more in my garden which is something I really enjoy. It’s just so funny to me that it is bad to be high and do things but people can drink and do all these activities and play sport, etc. it just makes no sense.

I could write a whole book about how smoking high quality weed has improved my life but I don’t think many of you want to read a whole chapter when you are just scrolling through r/changemyview. I’m just not here to try and change anyone’s mind. I just want to put this out there. Especially if you have ever smoked weed before. Thank you for reading this.

Edit 1: I’m overwhelmed by all my new friends and friends for life :) Thank you all for reading and I love you all. At my age, I really don’t have time to reply to everyone but thank you all so much. Keep smoking :) (Please don’t forget to upvote :) )
