If you believe women, believe us about how difficult and traumatic labour is

Why do people harangue women about how natural childbirth is, but we are somehow just weak for feeling like giving birth is a pain beyond anything else you could ever imagine?

It's absolutely wild to me that people who do not believe in miracles, or have never experienced anything they can't explain, will just bypass incredible and traumatic pain to say that women are just being dramatic.

There is a difference between pain and trauma! You can be in a lot of pain and still feel comforted or be able to focus on the outcome, especially if you have opioids and can focus on the bleeping of the machines during an emergency surgery - that's not 'somehow natural' it's medical science. Giving birth is not natural if you're laying on a hospital bed, it's so abnormal that even without complications, it makes you wish you were dead - how is anything that could make someone want to die "natural"?

The trauma thesis even explains that the body works to reject trauma but often it leaks out in ways that are hard to express or verbalize, and giving birth, as much as we want to celebrate the miracle of a new life, is the most immediate source of pain and trauma I've ever experienced.

It's just so dumb to pretend that giving birth isn't the most painful and traumatic experience just because of a fetish for some "natural" childbirth.
