The Democratic party used to be based in social democracy, but like in the rest of the world, this political tendency declined in the world after the fall of the Berlin wall, and lost a lot of their political influence across the globe. But Democrats have managed to keep a strong presence in power through the years. However, they have had to adapt to this change abandoning their old policies.

Under the influence of politicians like Clinton and Obama, they started changing their policies to become more liberal, and appeal to neoliberalism. They started to attract the big donors, and stepped away from the collective financing of campaigns, through the contributions of common citizens and popular social movements. With this change in the way they finance themselves, they have lost the ability to make decisions in favor of the population. The Democratic party does not really care about middle and low classes anymore, because their political and ideological agenda is defined by the corporations that inject money into their campaigns. The only thing Democrats care about is winning elections, based on wokism, virtue signaling, and their identity politics. There is no real force that accuses the Democrats for their miserable response to this recession, and for their comorbidity with the big corporations, while the Republicans, at least, are being accused by the Democrats. This is why it is said that the Democratic party today is in reality a right-wing party, that is just closer to the center than Trump's administration.
