The fact that men are forced to work 40 hours a week and women are only forced to work 20-30 is one of the most egregious examples of anti-women bias in our culture.

This is a made up statistic but that's not my point.

The point is that men are disproportionately forced to work long hours, 5-6 days a week, in order to provide for themselves and the people they care about. Women can choose to have kids and work less, women can choose to work in jobs with better work-life balance, women can choose to leave abusive husbands and live off of the system or their savings. Women have more choices.

This is not bemoaning how bad it is to have to work long hours. This is bemoaning the fact that it's EXPECTED of men. Men cannot choose to work 20 hours a week, we can't choose to stay home with our kids all day, we can't choose to leave our job to go live off of the grid. If we try, we'll be called dead beats, we'll lose our right to see our kids, our employers will discriminate against us and pass us over for promotions, and so on.
