Facebook to restore Australian news after government agrees to amend media code

The company agreed to restore Australian news on the site after negotiations with the government, according to a statement posted to Facebook’s corporate blog. “The government has clarified we will retain the ability to decide if news appears on Facebook so we won’t automatically be subject to a forced negotiation,” the statement says. “It’s always been our intention to support the publishers most impacted by this legislation and we’ll start by recognizing AAPE independent media and small publishers.”
