I work at Subway and I have worked there for about 4 months. About a month into being there one of my coworkers was sick and I was called up to the back counter and told I needed to learn the drive-thru window.

I accepted it and one of the employees told me the process of how it works. I’ve done drive thru plenty of times at other jobs.

At first it was just pretty much a normal drive-thru window. Then the second car pulled up and when I tried to greet them, I realized I didn’t hear anything from the speaker outside. Usually it’s always a little delayed, so I figured that customers just pulled up too fast and it was delayed. So I kept on talking. I read back customers order, take payment, and get customers food to them.

It took me about 1-2 minutes to realize that the speaker above me was the speaker that customers were talking through. I get confused, so I put the headset on that is attached to the speaker system. I realized that customers weren’t responding back. I figured that there was something wrong with the speakers outside and that customers saw their order and decided to just pay.

I hand over the customers food and see that there is no one in the car and the car is just driving through the drive-thru really slow. I get the cars make and model and write it down on a piece of paper so that I could report it to my manager.

I tell my manager about it. She tells me that maybe a kid was talking to us on speaker and driving. Now mind you that the order was placed on the customers card information.

I’m still pretty confused and as a new employee, I didn’t want to think that too much into it. I figured that maybe the customers placed their order on the app and then gave their card information to the kid. They were talking to us, so the sound from speaker could have been delayed or muffled and it was just a bad connection.

It has been 4 months since I started working at Subway and that was the one customers order that didn’t make since. Now I think about it and it does seem kinda weird. When I was telling my manager about it, she didn’t seem to really care about it. I’m still not sure if it was just a weird connection or something weird that happened.
