Quick story:

2 weeks ago I was out in the front yard, working. I was kind of spaced out and wasn’t even thinking that a guy on a moped was making his third loop around our block until he looked directly at me, tossed the mope and proceeded to start walking towards my house.

I shit you not, my first thought was “I wonder where he’s going?” and my second thought was “I’m calling 911 anyway.”

I dialed 911 and started walking towards the street. I ACED the zombie caller test irl and I didn’t even have to do anything. The operator asked:

Dispatcher: “Are you endangered or in imminent danger?”

Me: “No I’m walking towards him. He’s walking towards me.”

Dispatcher: “I’m going to downgrade that to suspicious.”

Me: “Sounds good.”

I have 911 on speaker and the guy is walking through my yard. I start putting on a gun, clearing my waistband, then my side pocket and toss my phone. It’s now on the ground. The guy is about 5 feet away, looking at me and things are real now.

I don’t think I’d ever done anything like this in real life unless I’m storing my pistol, but I told the dispatcher:

Dispatcher: “Sir what’s happening?”

Me: “Back to active shooters. I’m telling the 911 operator in case I die. I’m engaging a paramilitary threat.”

(And in my head I’m thinking “fuck you, how do you not hear me clearing my shit? How do you not see my ACV?! I hope my side drawer doesn’t jam!”)

The guy walks up to me and opens his arms, and I was able to clear some pocket trash and stay pointed at him through the ACV until I could more effectively stay pointed at him with the barrel.

Long story short: he was a mentally disturbed, drug addicted veteran coming to his brother’s house to see if he was there. They didn’t call the police. He left hours later.

Some observations:

1. My house dog didn’t bark. He watched me make eye contact with the guy, saw me put on a gun and made a decisive attack on his spotlight and stay there. :(

2. I accidentally saw my wife’s underwear in my side pocket as I was dumping pocket trash. I didn’t warn the operator that was what I was doing or that there was a gun in my waistband. I love my wife and I love the operators. :(

3. I ACED that “911 zombie test” I saw. I kept the gun and phone pointed away from people and my wife was able to chop up some carrots to make a spotlight and stay hidden. ??

4. I need actual paramilitary training ACV or no ACV. Luckily the state is giving $50m to the gun orgs! Best of luck all Trainees.
