Why on earth do people approach your car while you’re sitting in it?

This is an unusual experience so I’ll just get into it and make it short. It happened in 2018.

One night I was waiting up for my friend to get off work. He was a pizza delivery guy at a local pizza parlor and he got off at 1am. I hung out in my car a block away from the restaurant waiting for him.

I noticed a guy who looked like he was in his 20’s walking down the street without any one else around him. Just by himself. And he starts walking in my direction towards my car.

Now, let me explain that this area was a pretty rough part of town. It’s where all the druggies and junkies lived and I was wary of people approaching my car.

So as the guy gets closer, I start up my car and pretend I’m about to leave. I turn on my headlights and put it into drive and the guy stops in his tracks. And for a few seconds we just stare at each other. I’m thinking in my head “What’s your game dude?”, “What could you possibly want at 1 in the morning?”.

Then I see him make a sudden U turn and cross the street. I stayed on high alert and watched him continue on his way. A few seconds later, I see my friend walking down the street which, distracted me for a second and I lost sight of the guy.

My friend and I left the neighborhood and headed back to the safer side of town. I told him what happened and he was shocked. Neither of us could come up with an explanation.

Who was this guy? What were his intentions? Why did he approach my car? I’ve been wondering this ever since and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever get the answer.
