My dad died suddenly last year, and my mom got herself a boyfriend less than 3 months after. My mom braced me on the fact that he would be helping her raise me and my sister, but as my mom has always been the parenting type I really didn’t expect much to change.

However, after the boyfriend moved in it became clear he wanted to be the parent and my mom would complement him. The first time it really grated on me was when he told me (correctly) that you need to deserve your toys and he took them back so I would earn them again. My mom gasped and put her hand on his arm, saying “no, he can just wain seven days.”

I told my mom after that he was not going to play that with me, and my mom agreed. However, he still parents my 15 year old sister.

I tried my mom’s last birthday to not make it a parent/child type celebration, but my mom’s boyfriend butched the whole thing into a child’s birthday, complete with games we adults played as kids, and it really pissed me off. After, when my mom was getting ready for bed, I told him that what he did was not okay and he had to stop parenting us. He got defensive and said I clearly had “parentality issues” and that since my mom wanted him to help her he really had no choice.

He has continued to parent us despite my mom telling him to stop, and he continues to ignore me when I complain. He has tried to force me to talk to him when he saw me ignoring him, and told my mom that he was going to put his foot down and he isn’t going to stop parenting until I obey.

Pointed this out to him and told him that my mom and I are asking him to respect our boundaries, but he instead went and told my mom that I were (my sister doesn’t have anymore issues with him) throwing a tantrum because we were trying to be babies after he said he would stop parenting until he was dead.

My mom was disappointed and said we had to give him another chance. I tried to explain to her that I really don’t like him, but my mom said it doesn’t matter if I don’t like him, she is sticking with him and I just have to learn to work with him. I really can’t stand this man and I’m trying my best to ignore him and act like I don’t know he’s there.
