My mom is a panhandler. I am ashamed of her.

I'm a 30 year old female. My mother is 57. My mom has been a panhandler for some years now. I am ashamed of her and I don't know what to do. She's not homeless. She has already received over half a million dollars from winning the lottery a few years ago. She has been using the money for only unnecessary things. She has over $400,000 in cash sitting in a safety deposit box at a bank. She literally has it just sitting there. Imaging that scene from Heat where it's just stacks and stacks of cash, that's what it is. <br><br>She lives in an affluent area in an $8,000 a month condo by the beach. She has a lot of jewelry and many handbags. Most of them were purchased used but she still paid a lot for them and she doesn't even use them except for her Louis Vuitton Neverfull that she carries around everywhere and it's filled with dumb stuff like umbrella, water, snacks, and other useless things. That bag by itself cost $3,000. <br><br>She also has over a dozen phones and tablets. Most of them were purchased and given to her by my older brother. She has on average 6 or 7 phones on her at any given time and the stupid thing is that she doesn't even have sim cards for most of them and she doesn't even use them. They're literally just collecting dust everywhere. She doesn't even know how to use most of them. Her main phones are two iPhone 13 Pros that she carries around and she had it custom airpod case thing on it that makes them look like abominations. It's stupid. <br><br>So she's not broke but she has resorted to panhandling and I think she started doing this when she was living in a different city a few years ago. I was staying with her during then when she first started doing it and I was in utter disbelief. I never thought in a million years my mom would be doing that and she still does it today. She stands at an intersection and holds a sign that says she needs money for food. She doesn't need money for food. She throws out so much food it's disgusting but whatever. She gets a lot of money doing this and that money is usually spent on dumb stuff. <br><br>She did this in front of me a couple weeks ago and it was embarrassing. We went to a laundromat with around $70 worth of quarters and she left to go to the corner and hold up her sign and collect money. Many people gave her money. It was embarrassing. <br><br>She's done this by herself plenty of times as well. She will drive to different areas and do it. I don't know how much money she's accumulated from doing but she carries around a lot of cash on her so it can't be much but whatever. <br><br>I have shamed her many times about this and she always tries to justify it but she can't. I usually just give her a look of disappointment and she tries to act like she doesn't care. She tries to act like it doesn't bother her and she tries to just laugh about it but she has to feel ashamed. She has to. How can't she? She's a grown ass woman sitting in intersections begging people for money when she's not in need of it and she's begging for food when she has a full fridge and she throws out so much food. <br><br>I've told her she's becoming a bum and she laughs. Some days I don't even recognize her anymore. She's become a different person. I want to help her but she doesn't need my help. She's a grown ass woman and she can already take care of herself. I can't force her to stop doing this. I just feel bad for her because I don't know what to do or how to help my mom. I can't force her to stop doing it but I don't want to see her stoop this low because it doesn't make sense. I feel it's pathetic that she's begging for money. She's smart but I feel like she's not smart enough to know selling stuff she doesn't use anymore would give her more than panhandling.<br><br>EDIT: She's tried being a vendor of something but it doesn't work out for her because she doesn't follow the rules and she will already have her sign out asking for food and she will also sell the items out of the bag but that's not allowed. She only sells stupid items like flowers and cards and candies that she bought from the dollar store. Mainly candies.
