So many times, I’ve read about some American “reviving” an “old” or “dead” city by just by being there. This is usually used when an old factory town’s population dwindles and an economic boom happens.

Do people realize that those cities were already fully inhabited, but the residents just happened to be a different ethnicity than the people moving in?

An example of this is how theTikTok hashtag #CornwallonHudson and Euphoria’s season 2 special getting so many Americans interested. The town was already inhabited by Black people who were getting gentrified out for years.

The same thing happened in Pittsburgh. In the 2000s, many tech startups moved in and this was seen as a “revival”. Meanwhile, Black people, who have lived there since the Great Migration were slowly getting kicked out for these “revivals”.

I’m getting really sick of this “revival” narrative, it’s disgusting.
