Do women really want to show off in public?

Over the years I've read countless articles and heard from men how gals are in a relationship want to show off to those at work, their families, friends, etc. that they have a "man" in their life. This is supposed to be a real ego boost for them. I've wondered about this and thought this is BS but then again maybe not.
