My wife bought a log of cheddar cheese yesterday but when I went to get it out of the fridge tonight it was mostly gone. It wasn't gone, our son had used it for sandwiches, it had just been left a bit long so it had dried out and gotten pretty firm.

I asked my wife if we should wrap it up and freeze it to use with scrambled eggs or mac and cheese or what, and she said no that was too much work.

I then asked where the rest of the cheese had gone and she said she moved it to the basement freezer to keep it from going bad sooner.

I said okay, but then I heard my neighbor 2 houses down our street pulling into his driveway. I watched him come in and go to the front door of his house through the window, and when he went inside I took the remaining cheese and walked over to his house.

I rapped on his front door and he came outside looking a little confused, then a little embarrassed. I said we had bought this cheese together and I wanted it back, and I handed him a slice.

He said what, and I said I had watched him take it out of the house, and that it was going bad and should be eaten sooner. I then offered to sell it to him at a discount for being an accomplice and he agreed to $5.

I took the slice of cheese back home and wrapped it up and put it in the freezer.

My wife came home from running errands and I told her what had happened. She was very mad at me and said that I had humiliated our neighbor and embarrassed him in front of his kids and that I made her feel bad for trying to do something good, and that I spent $5 on cheese I didn't even plan to eat.

She said I should have just let the cheese go to waste. I said no.

She said I was an asshole.

AITA?
