Hi Everyone. In light of yesterday's attacks on Kabul, I am reminded that there are powerful arguments that the United States should withdraw from Afghanistan. I personally believe that the United States should continue to withdraw from Afghanistan, I will explain why below.

1. The United States has been in Afghanistan for twenty years, and by all accounts is set to stay until 2120 or so based on the current pace. This is unacceptable, we've destroyed Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, damaged large parts of Africa, and spent trillions of dollars accomplishing nothing in my opinion. It's time to stop the endless wars and nation building.

2. The United States should be more introspective. We have problems at home, large parts of our country lack basic services, clean water, safety, etc. Shouldn't we be spending funds to fix these problems? Is it right that we use our military might to force our way of life on people who don't want it?

3. The Security Situation doesn't look particularly stable. The Taliban is gaining ground and winning battles, the Afghan Security Forces are not in a strong position. I know many here are anti-war, and I'm sure there's a huge sentiment that we should stay, so I want to hear your opinion.

4. We've accomplished our main goals. Bin Laden is dead. Al-Qaeda is punished. If we stay, the best case scenario is that nothing worsens. But what if the situation declines? What if a new group like Al-Qaeda forms? The costs far outweigh any benefit. The best case is that nothing happens, and I believe that nothing would happen should we leave.

5. The Taliban are Afghans, its inevitable that they'll be a part of the future. I'm not begging for peace talks, but I think it's clear that the Taliban will play a role in Afghanistan. Why not begin shaping that future than to delay it?

6. We should be ashamed. Our occupation has caused regional instability and has maybe created more terrorism than it has stopped. We should be ashamed to have occupied a country for two decades and accomplished so little to improve the people's lives.

\-------------

That's my view. Now please come change it.

\---------

EDIT: Thank you all for your comments and interactions. Thank you to those who continued to engage in a positive manner. Thank you all. I will take all of your comments and critiques under consideration and may end up changing my viewpoint.
