They said the world was going to end at at during the Y2K. Why did they end up becoming a supercomputer soon after?

I was way too young to remember the day, but my dad once told me that everyone was all scared of going into the year 2000. Apparently all the computers were supposed to shut down or something and it was going to become literally a post-apocalyptic world without any technology. <br><br>But here we are with our smartphones and supercomputers. It's actually pretty funny.
