I met a killer whilst volunteering last year….

So I had been training to work with girl guides last year in my country and there was an event for us to go camping with our local guides at a campsite (it was a weekend trip). I was one of the people chosen to go. I didn’t tell any of my fellow trainees about it because I came from a very crappy background and I wanted a fresh start when I became an actual leader, so I was pretty quiet. <br><br>When we were there, we were all chatting as we put our equipment away in our tents (there were several, we’re talking loads of us) and all the other trainees were doing their training at another site. We elaborated a bit about where we came from and things like that, and I thought the atmosphere was amazing. <br><br>I didn’t realize, though, one of the guides actually didn’t know the rest of us and was new. Nobody pointed it out and I didn’t know the difference. We also decided to have a campfire and sit and talk at night, all of us girls ( it was all girls). We were getting along until the new girl decided to tell us about where she came from. <br><br>She elaborated on how she used to be part of a different troupe and her leader took her parents to court and it was all very complicated; she moved troupe and that was that. She didn’t say the name of the previous troop or the area but it really annoyed me. It was getting late, so we decided to go to bed, and I was the only one on my own in the tent. <br><br>I got to sleep and I remember really vividly. I had been distracted and couldn’t sleep at first and I guess I got used to the darkness, but I was woken by a lot of noise. It sounded like a pack of wolves murderous, and I didn’t wake up really. I didn’t think at all. I just reacted. I looked at the door, and because it was girl guides, there was no lock, just a zip. I unzipped it with ease. I remember looking at that girl now as her eyes were open, and they were wide, and I was hiding because she looked right at me. <br><br>I saw her head and the light from outside the tent shining. I didn’t think, I just did it. I pushed her head into it by the scruff of the neck and she looked around, startled, as if she hadn’t expected it, and then she started running. I didn’t wake up really. I didn’t think at all. I just reacted. I looked at the door, and because it was girl guides, there was no lock, just a zip. I unzipped it with ease.
