"Make it illegal to stop someone from killing themselves"

The owner of my climbing gym had us sit down for a minute before class yesterday and gave us some disturbing news. There was an incident a few weeks ago where a fellow climber had gotten to the top of the wall and, instead of climbing back down, he jumped. The staff had absolutely no idea what to do, and the owner said that a lot of the staff were also traumatized from the event. He went on to say that he had to tell the staff to let people jump if they got to the top and wanted to kill themselves, because the number one priority is making sure that everyone is safe, and that staff members sacrificing their lives to try to save someone who wants to kill themselves is not in the definition of safety.

I think it should be completely illegal for someone to interfere with someone who is trying to kill themselves. In my opinion, if someone combines years of research with a deliberate attempt on their own life, intercepting someone like that and giving them brain damage or another deformity or disability, just because you saw the act in progress and wanted stop it, should be illegal. If you think that someone who is trying to kill themselves has been brainwashed by a cult, and must be rescued, it should be illegal. Once an act of suicide is carried out, there's no going back. You cannot change the past. The only thing you can hope for is that the person who was trying to kill themselves is either dead, or alive and able to try again.
