Why does it matter what gender the person is in a situation?

I come on this sub more and more to see both sides of the argument, and the more I see it, the more I feel like there’s a lot of straw man arguments. One thing that gets to me is the idea that it matters what gender the person is in any scenario.<br>Here’s an example from a post on this sub, which is in turn quoting a post from r/TwoXIndia.<br><br>> He asked me if I’d be okay with having an open marriage. I said I’m not. I don’t understand why he’s doing this. I told him I’m not comfortable but he’s still doing it, why is he doing this? What did I do wrong to make it like this?
