CMV: Most people don't truly want to believe in God even if it was proven to be true- They prefer to use God to justify their own desires and personal beliefs.

I want to preface by saying that this is just my own personal opinion. After seeing many religious debates and arguments involving religion, it seems that most people don't truly want to believe in God or even follow God. Almost everyone who is part of a religion is more worried about their own personal wants and desires rather than what their religion may say that they should do.

For example, there are Catholics who identify as a Catholic but are pro-choice. It is basically God's number one don't to abort a child. Why would these people even be a part of a religion that is so anti-abortion when they don't agree with it? The most logical answer is they don't truly want to believe in God. They would rather use their own morals and God as a way to justify their beliefs.

Another example is the people in the USA who use religion to justify their anti-LGBT stance. These people don't truly want to follow God. They would much rather use God to justify their own personal hate that they have for LGBT people. If most religious people truly wanted to believe in God, they would let their own personal biases get in the way. But in reality, they allow their own desires to get in the way. They would rather be their own God and point to a higher power to try and justify their own actions.

Edit: Wow, this got a lot more interactions than I thought it would. Thanks for all the feedback.

Edit 2: Also, I apologize if this doesn't fit the sub well enough. I'm not looking to change my view on this topic necessarily. Just rather spark a discussion.
