Know that if you’re feeling tired all the time, some part of your life is probably fucked, and it’s worth some self-reflection and probably professional insight to find out what it is

I’ve had times when I was depressed, times when I was having GYN issues, years when I had sleep apnea and wasn’t being treated for it, and times when everything is fine and things on the list below were just fucked.

Know if you’re tired all the time that it might be one or more of these things: Your phone starts lighting up at night because “hey, we’re not doing anything right now, so here are all the notifications we kept from the evening”. Having worked an 8-10 hour day, you decide to play on your phone at night because you’ve played yourself into thinking “hey, you’re not doing anything right now, so here are all the notifications we kept from the evening”. Your partner has a movable protrusion in their nose that you didn’t know about until you moved in together, or, worse, you’ve known for ten years and haven’t figured out how to handle it. You didn’t know that sleep was why all the animals in the forest were fucking in March. You move to a neighborhood that’s busier at night than your old neighborhood, and there’s light shining in your window when you try to sleep that wasn’t there at your old place. If you sleep on a mattress on the floor, know that you have lost the ability to get off the floor. If you sleep on a bed with a low frame, know that you’ve lost the will to get off the bed. You have a cat that’s decided that you haven’t been feeding it enough. You have a baby that has decided that it’s coming into a growth spurt, and needs more calories to feed the spurt. You’ve decided that you need to game more, or watch TV more, or watch YouTube more, or browse Reddit more, or help out your friends more, or do any of these things right before bed. You’ve decided that you can’t sleep until you’ve had fifteen minutes of TikTok before bed to unwind, and then another fifteen minutes of a different social media app to unwind further, and then another fifteen minutes not having had a good video for the first thirty minutes, so why not another fifteen? Your sleep app says that you wake up at 3am every night, but you know it’s wrong because you were fast asleep when it said you woke up, and you’re sure you dreamed that you got out of bed and went to the kitchen to get some ice cream.

If you sleep through your alarm five times every morning, you’re not too lazy to get out of bed, you’re just tired. Maybe your partner moved you ten times during the night because you were snoring so loudly. Maybe you are actually too lazy to get out of bed, but you don’t have the energy to be lazy, because you’re tired all the time. If you’re tired all the time, something needs to change.
