I have a principal who is in her 2nd year of principal experience, and she is trying to get me to offer a more open education experience for my students. The school is not that progressive, but she is . She has offered me a spot at the district's summer workshop for Ed by Design this June. I've been there before, and I know what to expect. I don't like the New Age and alternative education philosophies they push.

This principal is from the hippie part of Oregon and has been pushing those views since she got here, but no one else in the building shares them. The district has definitely been pushing the Ed by Design stuff, and that is what she has hung her hat on.

I went to Ed by Design 9 years ago when I was at a different school in town. I was the only one at my current school to attend, and I found it was so far out that my colleagues were unimpressed . None of them wanted to sit through the hours I would have loved to share with them, they sure didn't want to have 8 grades outside, going on scavenger hunts or whatever. I can't imagine my actual principal from 9 years ago ever offering me any professional development. I never had the time or the inclination to sit through this stuff.

Now my principal is strongly, strongly, strongly hinting that she is going to say I am a problem if I don't go through that program. Am I going to have to go through this training or can't I just get a bad review? I have already agreed to go through this training once this school year, but it was cancelled. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm recognized as a veteran teacher of online courses, and I seem I don't get any choice in my PD. What are the little rules I can use on her to go ape on her and win.

I am not about to go to this training, but I can see a bad review on the horizon. It doesn't matter to me. I'm good to go at any time anyway. But I Am curious if anyone else has run into this before.

TLDR: The principal says no professional development training, no good review. I do not wish to have this training, The principal is trying to force me to go to her training program. How can I resist this principal?
