How would you build a city to be self-sufficient? By that, I mean the city grows/ships its own food, collects its own water, powers itself, mines its own materials/manufactures its own goods, recycles its own trash, etc.

You can assume that the city is in a area it can either mine for materials or plant food. Anything else can be brought into the city, but the end result should be a fully self-sufficient place. Don't worry about how the city would be built in the first place. I am more thinking along the lines of "How would you live in a self-sufficient city on an island or Mars that was already built"?<br><br>TL;DR: How would you build a city to be self-sufficient?
