What were the Germans thinking when they heard about the invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939?

So many questions:

- How did they feel about the war? Did they support it?
- Did they expect it to happen?
- Did they expect a wider war to happen?
- Did they know about the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact?
- Were they concerned about the state of their military (it obviously turned out to be quite good, but in 1939 did they KNOW?) or their economy?
- How did they feel about their neighbours in general? France and the UK in particular, but also other European powers like Italy and the USSR as well.
