Context: my bf's sister's husband doesn't work, and neither does she, but she's a stay at home mom. This guy is in his late 20s and actively in school, but doesn't work either at all. He said that he would pay his own taxes that he owes to get his degree, but hasn't, and at this point, he hasn't paid his taxes in years, refuses to pay them, and somehow managed to get his tuition waived for his master's degree.

I watched this happen and I never understood how someone could get away with not paying taxes, and at one point, he had a job in this position for a month or two? but then just stopped working. I don't know how he doesn't get in legal trouble. My bf's sister also barely has a social media presence but she has much more of a presence than her husband, and people somehow managed to find her online to contact her about his tuition and someone there gave her a full waiver for his second degree. My bf's sister also ended up getting a job making double what my bf makes in the first week, and she didn't even have a degree.

I do not understand at all what's happening here. In all of this history, I see photos of her children, but I don't remember ever seeing photos of her or her husband. I also have no idea how they manage to live in their 30s and 40s with no jobs and as many as 2 degrees with zero jobs and zero money. At one point, they couldn't afford groceries at all and they were literally broke. This has been going on for years. I don't understand how they don't lose their house or car at this point. I've also seen this guy purchase shoes for this guy we can't afford and easily makes triple what he makes.

I don't understand how they can afford all this stuff when they’re broke and they don't have any jobs and literally have no money, they're homeless at this point. I don't know what to do. My bf's sister has somehow managed to get the scholarship for her degree while she isn't a full-time student.

Also, my bf's sister refuses to pay rent while she’s living with her in-laws because they're broke and don't have any money, but her children are the only ones with new clothes, new toys, and food. She refuses to pay bills, refuses to pay the taxes on her car, and refuses to pay the taxes on her home.

I do not understand how this happens. How are they not arrested for tax evasion?

I don't even know what to do. I don't even care if they don't pay taxes. I care that they ripped off their family and their brother. But I just cannot understand how they could get away with not paying taxes and not having a job and getting a full tuition waiver on two degrees.

Edit:

The tuition waiver was given by a full-time staff member at a public university. It was a paid master's degree, and the tuition for the master's degree was waived by a full-time staff member. This was after he finished his first degree and didn't get a job, just went straight to applying for his master's degree at the same university he graduated from without a job. The waiver wasn't a government sponsored waiver.

A lot of you have said that you would do the same thing, but this wasn't a government sponsored thing. This was a full-time staff worker at a public university who didn't work in financial aid, and somehow managed to give him a tuition waiver without any student loans or government funding. I do not have a problem with applying for financial aid. The only financial aid he applied for was the tuition waiver that was required for him to get his degree.

I do think the government should pay for everyone's tuition.

My point is that he didn't even apply for financial aid and someone still mailed him a letter and said you don't have to pay for this degree, and he's still unemployed and has no job. I'm not saying anything bad about the degree.

I'm saying this is a public university worker working in a different department at a university who has no right to give this tuition waiver without someone approving it, and they didn't approve it and they didn't even apply for it. Someone at the university has given him this tuition waiver, and he's still unemployed and has no job and now he's trying to get a different career at a different university that isn't getting a tuition waiver.
