# EDIT: This has gotten completely out of control. I'm closing this thread since it has been locked by the moderators anyway. If you want to discuss this further, send me a message or an email, or post it in the thread I made in r/EscapingPrisonPlanet.

---

**Update 2020-05-18:** Wow, this blew up. Please be nice and enjoy the discussion :) I'll try to reply to as many comments as possible.

**Update 2020-05-20:** A user suggested I should pin the **"TL;DR"** at the bottom of this post, so I did.

***

**-submitted as a throwaway account, since some people are getting worried I might be doxxing family members if I post this on my main account-**

I am from Germany, in my mid 30's and am a long time science-fiction and especially Star Wars fan. My wife and I have been together since 2003, we got married in 2008 and have two children (6, 4) now. We've had our ups and downs but overall, I would say we have a perfect marriage (yes, it sometimes is boring, but that's life, right?). I am very happy, my wife and children are my universe.

Unfortunately, my wife is not the biggest science fiction fan, but she was (probably?) OK with everything until...

...the Disney buyout.

# Let me explain...

Up until "The Force Awakens", my wife tolerated the whole science fiction thing, but was not very much into it. At some point, I got her to watch the first two trilogies, but she was completely overwhelmed as she didn't exactly know in which order to watch. I had the VHS tapes, but they were the 1997 "Special Edition" kind (the ones where they "fixed" the movie and added more FX), and back then, the DVD versions weren't available in stores anymore.

After I got my first blu-rays in 2008, I offered to show her the "prequels" first, but she declined. After some time, I asked her again, and this time she wanted to watch it. We started with episode I, and she didn't seem to like the whole thing, so we stopped.

When "The Force Awakens" came to theaters in 2015, I asked her again if she wanted to watch the "original" trilogy now, so she could watch TFA afterwards, but no. So I went to see it alone, and she saw it with some colleagues from work without ever watching any of the other stuff. She said she didn't like it that much, but hey, that's not my cup of tea either, to be honest.

At some point, we had a Disney+ trial subscription, and she saw "Rogue One" and enjoyed it. But these were no ideal circumstances since she couldn't follow the characters as much as she would have wanted to, as we had to watch in the evenings, i.e., in between her going to bed to sleep and the kids getting up in the morning. It still took us a week to finish the movie, as we probably only watched 15 minutes every night. She said she enjoyed the movie, but didn't really know any of the characters (like, who Cassian Andor was, or K-2SO). We also tried to show her "Solo", but she didn't like it very much, even though she said it was "better than Rogue One".

Fast forward to December 2019, when "The Rise of Skywalker" was released to theaters in Germany. I went to see it twice with friends, and my wife didn't care to go to the cinema, because she said "I didn't exactly know what was going on in the previous movies, so how should I know what's going on this time?". I offered to show her the "Skywalker Saga" in a decent order (and maybe the two spinoff movies too) before she watched TROS, and she said "but we don't have that much time, and maybe it's too complicated, as we have work stuff to handle until February"

Long story short, this year, my wife got upset with me because I wanted to watch "Parasite" and she had no interest in seeing it since it would be a "boring long movie with too many characters to keep track of", so I went to see it alone, as I had to see it at some point (it had won six Oscars, after all). This somehow turned into an argument where I said "you want me to watch what you want to, but you don't want to watch anything *I* want to?". She said "I didn't know it would mean that much to you! I thought it was just this weird South Korean movie and since we don't have time we could skip it anyway", and I said "the same thing you said about Star Wars, remember?". She said "Oh my, I am so sorry. I completely forgot, you are right. I was wrong, I have never given you the chance". And I said "These are just movies, it doesn't really matter, but I could give you the chance: Watch the whole thing now, in order, nothing in between, and I will not disturb you. But you have to promise to give me your honest opinion afterwards, and you are not allowed to skip anything". She said "OK". I booked the weekend for her to have the spare time, and these are all the movies I had "forced" her to watch:

* episodes I-IX, in release order, with the Holiday Special in between episodes V and VI to show her the "worst of Star Wars" (she watched Rebel Moon on Disney+ afterwards)
* Rogue One
* Solo
* The Mandalorian (as that's the only other canon live-action stuff out now)
* All the animated series and holiday specials (on Tuesday, the last day of her spare time, after finishing TPM, this "marathon" has kept her up the whole night)
* The Fan Film "Star Wars: Origins"

And I am typing this out right now because she is crying while watching the Clone Wars as she told me "I feel so bad. I am so sorry for not listening, for not giving you the chance. I have always felt bad about it but I didn't know how to say sorry".

I still have to show her the Holiday Special and the Ewok movies, but the Clone Wars is probably gonna be too long for her spare time to end.

So there you have it. My wife has been a bitch, but had a change of heart and watched everything. And in doing so, completely engrossed herself into the story, with Ahsoka as her favorite character so far. This is all completely ridiculous, but this is how my life is.

**TL;DR:** Wife is not into science fiction, but Disney made her watch all of Star Wars (including the Holiday Special, the Ewok movies, and all animated stuff) in 5 days (and she loved it)
